As a young child, Reyna thrived under the guidance of her loving and adventurous parents. While James was often busy with his demanding job as Mayor of Juneau, Kate made herself available to her vibrant kids due to her flexible schedule as a writer. The Solomons playground was the gorgeous backdrop of their state, and they often took summer vacations to explore every corner of their home. The love of the outdoors became embedded in Reyna, and she became an expert hunter and archer thanks to the encouragement of her mother. Even with all the time spent traveling and exploring, Reyna thrived in school and believed it to be her ticket to explore the "mainland" of the States.
Despite a promising collegiate career, Reyna was unsure of what to major in. While taking a handful of psychology classes, she also was interested in going the pre-med route. By suggestion of her mentor, Reyna began taking cognitive psychology courses. Nevertheless, after completing her sophomore year, she did decide to pursue her childhood dream of being a neurosurgeon. Even as she tackles the excrutiating courses of Biology and Organic Chemistry, Reyna was handpicked to become TA of one of UMass' more difficult Brain Science class that is spearheaded by one of its best professors whose name is Jacqueline Gris.

There, Rachel joined the X-Men, in an attempt to change her future from occurring, by stopping Senator Kelly's assassination. Rachel used her considerable telepathy and telekinesis to Chronoskim into the past, but, even with a successful mission, her timeline was not altered. Rachel traveled into the past herself, to see why nothing changed, and the Phoenix Force sensed her. Returning to the present with Rachel, the Force lay dormant, until Rachel was almost killed by Nimrod and the Force sent her to the past.
Arriving in a new timeline where Jean Grey was believed dead, Rachel claimed a holo-empathic crystal from Jean's parent's home and the name of Phoenix as her own birthright. As Phoenix, Rachel joined the X-Men and battled as the team's telepath, often times making brash decisions with her cosmic powers. In later adventures, Rachel joins the teams Excalibur and Starjammers.

Rachel is an Omega Mutant and daughter of Phoenix. She possesses unlimited psionic powers of telepathy and telekinesis, in addition to limited chronal abilities. Most believe her powers to be cosmic-level, though Rachel lacks knowledge of how to exert the full extent of her powers.
